Citizen was founded in 1918 as the Shokosha Watch Research Institute and is a prominent Japanese watch company that was renamed Citizen in 1930. The company gained recognition for its innovative technology, such as shock-resistant and very precise watches. One of the highlights of Citizen was in 1976. In this year the Citizen introduced the Eco-Drive technology, this is a watch movement that uses light as a power source, making it the world’s first analogue light-powered watch movement.
